Travel from London to Dubai

Another long and worthwhile day. Left the hotel in London at 3 p.m. (thankful for a late check out). We hung at the airport for a while and departed on time at 8:40 p.m. We landed in Dubai the next day at 6:30 a.m. right on time. Details below.

This was taken while waiting for the Hoppa Bus from our hotel in London to the airport. Continental's Mascot-Official Sponsor of the FIFA World Cup.

Still waiting for our bus.

We scored some Krispy Kreme Donuts at Heathrow.

These guys weren't eating Krispy Creme.

Glad we were at the airport early. They were sticklers regarding Dax's carry-on briefcase. It weighed 15 kilos and the limit for the one and only carry-on is 7 kilos. They sent him to a table with his checked suitcase and his carry-on briefcase to switch and lose 8 kilos. He took a few things out and placed them in his suitcase and then handed us everything else on his way back to the counter. We stood out of site (with Isaiah's 2 carry-ons, my one carry-on and all of Dax's extra stuff). They re-weighed his bags and cleared him. He walked back over to us, we handed all his stuff to him and loaded it back into his carry-on. Note, we are allowed ONE carry-on per person with NO additional items like purses, camera bags, briefcases, etc. We hid Isaiah's extra carry-on behind us when we checked in and they didn't weigh our backpacks--just Dax's briefcase. Anyway, it's a stupid rule. After you get through this line, you can go to the big shopping area and buy all the stuff you want duty free. Passengers then board the plane carrying multiple bags which weigh more than his briefcase. Oh well, we snuck on and made it with no further confrontations.

Our flight was lovely with the exception of a man from London behind us who NEVER shut up. If you are interested in his life story, family, work history then I could write a separate blog entry dedicated to him. (No thanks, I'll pass). Because of his ability to talk about nothing for nearly 7 consecutive hours, we didn't get one minute of sleep. Isaiah managed to block him out for the last 20-25 minutes of the flight.

A desert skyline while on approach.

Fixin' to land.

We landed at 6:30 a.m., took a train to retrieve our luggage, went through immigration and customs and found a taxi. We chose the "Lady Taxi"--there was a big line of them--all small mini-vans with female Muslim drivers. They only haul women or families. She was wonderful and I must mention, the best taxi experience we have ever had world-wide.  We arrived at the hotel around 7:45 a.m. and got checked in, but had to wait for a room. We just walked around and hung out for about 1.5 hours.

These guys were by the pool.

A pic by the pool of Isaiah patiently waiting.

It is bright and hot, but I was comfortable.

Isaiah trying to stay awake in the hotel lobby with his Darth Vader pillow.

They fell asleep about 15 minutes before the staff came to get us for our room.

Our room--well, it is on the 24th floor and is bigger than our house. It has 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a beautiful kitchen, dining room, family/living room and views out of this world! Oh, we also have windows on all sides with amazing views and 2 patios with chairs and tables. The hallways and doors are at least 4 feet wide and it has tile throughout. AMAZING. We are not anxious to leave.  Upon getting to our room, we dropped our luggage, showered, and went to bed. Dax and I took a 4 hour nap and Isaiah grabbed a solid 7 hours.

After our nap and before dinner view from our room.

After our nap, we went for a night swim and then up to the 52nd floor for dinner.

Our 10:30 p.m dinner. Started with some mixed breads and olive spread.

Dax's dinner--but he did have minestrone soup first.

MY DINNER WAS DELICIOUS!

This WAS my desert, but Isaiah ate all but a few bites. That lil' stinker! How dare him be so aware at 11:35 p.m.

Dax's desert was amazing. I had a tasting bite! It was banana date nut pudding with vanilla bean ice cream. OH MY GOSH!

Tomorrow, hopefully we will sleep in. Dax has to go to work.
