June 12 and 13, Normandy (Omaha Beach) and Oradour-sur-Glane

 Omaha Beach

Longues-sur-Mer Battery

This was a World War II artillery battery constructed by the Wehrmacht near the French village of Longues-sur-Mer in Normandy. It formed a part of Germany's Atlantic Wall coastal fortifications.

Look at the view they had!

Then we drove to our next "home" in Saint-Junien, France.
We stayed in a former farm house dating back to 1750.

 Stairs to our room.

After a good night's rest, we had breakfast at the "farm house"
and then headed to Oradour-sur-Glane.

The owners were sweet as could be and helpful getting us settled.

Oradour-sur-Glane
On June 10, 1944, the village of Oradour-sur-Glane in Haute-Vienne in then Nazi-occupied France was destroyed. The Nazi Waffen-SS Company massacred all 642 of its inhabitants, including the women and children. Absolutely horrible. We walked through the entire village. So sad to see bullet holes in baby carriages and other things like that. Just awful.
